Simplicity is one of the rare traits, even while looking for a Blogger template. A minimal Blogger template that’s stylish enough for a professional blog is even difficult to find. Here’s Tucol, a simple, free Blogger template for your BlogSpot blogs.

Tucol Free Blogger Template

A two-column blog with clean design, it has been optimized for search engines. (Only the homepage, pages and post pages will be indexed by search engines. The rest including archives will be closed for search engines, thus avoiding duplication of content.) It’s highly recommended for those who are using Blogger for stepping into the world of serious blogging. It is available in four colours: red, green, blue and white. The template has been tested to work fine in Internet Explorer 7 and above, Firefox, Opera and Safari Web browsers. It breaks down in damned Internet Explorer 6, but still remains usable.

How to upload the Blogger template? Unzip the template archive and save the template XML file at any desired location. Log in to your Blogger account. Click on the “Design” link below your blog’s name. Now, go to the “Edit HTML” tab and upload the design XML template. Remember to backup your active theme before uploading the new one by downloading the template.

The template has an customizable header where you can add your own image by directly uploading an image. (To edit the header, go to the “Design” link of your blog and click on “Edit” link in the “Page elements” tab. Make the desired changes.)

The template’s sidebar is editable and consists of a widget section in the entire sidebar and two widget sections in the same width. Thus, the sidebar is highly customizable. The footer is divided into three widget areas where you can add the desired widgets.

Though most of the components of the theme have been designed to allow customization without having to deal with the template code, the menubar (top navigation), the footer and the links to RSS feed, Facebook page and Twitter have to be modified in the code.

Click on the blog’s “Design ” link and then enter the “Edit HTML” tab. Now, search for “CUSTOMIZE THIS” in the template. Follow the simple instructions to customize all the available options.

How to customize the Blogger menubar? Ok. Making your blog easily navigable is a bit tricky. First, you need to think of the broad tags (called labels in Blogger) that you will use to categorize your blog posts. For example, if I am planning a food blog, I will categorize all my posts with four labels–Indian, Chinese, French and Wines. These will be areas that I will be writing. Whenever I will write a post, it will include one of the labels. If I write about Indian street food, it will have two labels–India and street food. In the menubar, I will include links to the category pages that will show all the posts filed under on label. If my blog is http://myblog.blogspot.com, one of the links for navbar will be <a href="http://myblog.blogspot.com/search/label/indian">Indian</a>

You should also upload the images on your own server or free image hosting services, and replace your own URLs with the ones given in the theme. It will help optimize your theme. The template package include all the images, so if any image link stops working in the future, you can upload them on a different service and continue using the Blogger template.

  6. I loved it.
It seems to be what I was looking for.
I would love even more all in white, without the color background. Is it possible?

    • You can easily tweak the theme to remove the background color. Check W3C School to see how you can make the change using CSS.
