Simple things are more beautiful and elegant than flashy and complicated stuff, at least that’s how it’s for me. That’s why most of my Blogger templates and WordPress themes are simple, clean and with lots of breathing space. SimGreen (shortened for Simply Green) Blogger template is the latest offering from Specky Geek. This template for your BlogSpot blogs is clean and stylish, fit for a professional blog.
This three-column template has been optimized for search engines. (Only the homepage, pages and post pages will be indexed by search engines. The rest including archives will be closed for search engines, thus avoiding duplication of content.) The template has been tested to work fine in Internet Explorer 7 and above, Firefox, Opera and Safari Web browsers. Not tested for the obsolete Internet Explorer 6, but it will show a notice requesting the user to upgrade to the latest version of any popular Web browser.
How to upload the Blogger template? Unzip the template archive and save the template XML file at any desired location. Log in to your Blogger account. Click on the “Design” link below your blog’s name. Now, go to the “Edit HTML” tab and upload the design XML template. Remember to backup your active theme before uploading the new one by downloading the template.
The template has an customizable header where you can add your own image by directly uploading an image. (To edit the header, go to the “Design” link of your blog and click on “Edit” link in the “Page elements” tab. Make the desired changes.)
The template’s sidebars (a 120px left sidebar and a 200px right sidebar) are editable and widget-ready. The footer has been retained with a straight forward link list and a foot note.
Though most of the components of the theme have been designed to allow customization without having to deal with the template code, the menubar (top navigation), the footer and the links to RSS feed and Twitter have to be modified in the code.
Click on the blog’s “Design ” link and then enter the “Edit HTML” tab. Now, search for “CUSTOMIZE THIS” in the template. Follow the simple instructions to customize all the available options.
How to customize the Blogger menubar? Making your blog easily navigable is a bit tricky. First, you need to think of the broad tags (called labels in Blogger) that you will use to categorize your blog posts. Whenever you write a post, it will include one of the labels. In the menubar, you need to include links to the category pages that will show all the posts filed under on label. You should also upload the images on your own and place your own URLs with the ones given in the theme. The best way to do that is upload the images in a draft post on your blog, go to edit mode and use the image links to replace the default image links in the template. It will help optimize your blog. The template package include all the images, so if any image link stops working in the future, you can upload them on a different service and continue using the Blogger template.
The template is free for both personal and commercial use, but needs to have the attribution link in the footer. The theme cannot be redistributed, but you are free to link to this page for sharing this BlogSpot template with others.
