Blogging for money needs dedication, persistence and most importantly discipline. A niche-based, professional blog is a type of service so naturally the consumer (reader) will have expectations from it. If you want to live up to those expectations you’ll have to keep your blog updated regularly with good quality content. And to provide good quality content consistently, you’ll have to boost your blogging productivity.
As most blogs are run entirely by one blogger, the person has to take care of the blog content, design, promotion, etc., all by himself. Productivity attains more importance in such cases.
In this article, I’m sharing with you some of the best tips that will help you become a more productive blogger.
1. Stick To A Blogging Schedule
If you spend time on your blog whenever you find the time, change that habit instantly and lay down a proper blogging schedule. Having a fixed schedule will decrease the probability of procrastination (which is perhaps the worst enemy of a blogger).
Next, divide your blogging time into two – planning time and writing time. In the planning time, you need to focus on finding post ideas, conducting the keyword research, analysing trending topics, etc. You may also write down a few post outlines.
Equipped with the keywords, necessary research and an outline for articles that you drafted in the planning phase, you need to write the articles. It becomes easy to produce quality posts with this systematic approach.
2. Set Targets
When you set targets and accomplish them, your confidence gets a boost which further improves productivity. Your targets can be daily, weekly or monthly. It will also help you remain on track and achieve your goals more effectively. I set my targets in the form of a simple “To Do” list. I make a new list every day and stick it above my computer desk where I can see it. Sometimes it feels like a bit of pressure but once the task are accomplished, it feels great.
3. Break it Down
If you think about achieving a thousand page views per day or writing 5 posts a week, it might feel like a big task and you might put it off or waste time worrying about it. Instead break the task down into small chunks and start with the easiest one. Once you gain momentum by achieving a few small targets, the big task won’t seem unattainable.
For instance, if you want to write a long, in-depth post this week, first divide it into small manageable parts. On the first day, just get the outline done. Next, write a nice introduction and divide the body into sub headings and then complete 2-3 subheads every day over the week.
4. Keep a Notebook Handy
Even if you create a strict schedule for blogging, ideas might come to you at any time of the day. So keep a small notebook with you at all times to jot down the ideas. This will ensure that you don’t run out of ideas for blogging.
5. Keep Out The Distractions
The content still remains the king and crafting it remains the most important activity related to blogging. However, writing needs focus which is hard to attain when you are online and have Facebook, Twitter and Gmail distracting you. Try to do most of your writing offline. Even if you do go online, make sure you don’t go anywhere social networking sites till you are done writing.
6. Use all the tools you can
Tools are meant to make your life easier. So use them extensively. Use Google Calendar to create your blogging schedules, Google Keyword tool for research, the Pixel grabber extension for screen shots, etc. I’ll be writing a separate post for sharing such great tools for more productive blogging soon.
